Actually, I didn’t have any ideas about what we will learn about Language Teaching Methodologies in first meeting. Fortunately, it is answered by Ms. Vera and now I know (not much) what the porpuses of this courses for me. That is teaching language with best methods based on context.

So far, we learned about some teaching methods or concepts and tried to connect the Multiple Intelligences with teaching learning process. When we learned about The Post Methods Era, I am interested about it. I learned about some methods that used in teaching learning process. But what I’ve learned is those methods are useful in the class but must be based on context. I understand that no one methods work in all context.

Why? Because the situation and condition for several times are different. If we treat them with one concept and it continues, I think the result can be effective for little people but how about the others? There is different need of students about the methods in teaching learning process, so that we have to understand it.

Sometimes we need to use Audiolingualism only in the class to make the class comfort, but sometimes we need to combine the Audiolingualism with Task-Based Language Teaching to get the maximal result of teaching learning process.
            So, I think we have to be flexible to use the concepts of teaching because no one of those concepts is perfect. Even, we have to search others method that will be successful and accepted in Indonesia.

I was so tired and sleepy in the class

Oh my god… I think I had to wash my face several times but I didn’t. But still, the knowledge and information can be delivered well. Although have difficulties for a while. I think my mind was in LOLA mode :D

The fun part was when my friends and I turned on our cell phone and rang the sounds. It was like our lecturer wanted to show us even the ring-tones can be good in teaching learning process. It made me happy, because as I know we can’t use cell phone in the class. Although, our cell phone’s features can help them in teaching learning process, for example dictionary, recorder, video and audio player. Some rules in our Elementary and High School can't allow us to bring cell phone in teaching learning process

In Jigsaw game, I also learned a lot from that. Because, I could know more information and it was from my friends. It was so effective and cooperative. It helped me to improve my speaking ability.

If I was a teacher, I think I can use the sounds of cell phone in different section or activities. But after that section, I had to make the cell phones are in silent mode again.

This time, Mr. Iwan taught LTM to us twice. He taught me about Multiple Inteligent (MI).  Actually, I knew Multiple Intelligent when I was in first semester; I studied Integrated English Language Learning and knew how many multiple intelligent that exist. But, at that time we just know and understand about MI. That’ is… without know the important role of knowing that as a best teacher.

In Pak Iwan’s section, hopefully, I know more information about how to use it in teaching learning process. Because we as a next teacher generation have to know about the differences of student’s intelligent. So when we teach them, we can facilitate them based on their comfortable intelligent.

It was happy and unpredictable time for me. Why? Because, I could moved and laughed. Also there was unpredictable moment when my team gave a simulation. Oh ya’, I forgot to tell you, It was time for us to present the activities that can facilitate MI’s students. Actually, Pak Iwan had divided class into 8 teams at the first section. My team had prepared everything about the material whose would be used. We had prepared about the power point presentation, Videos, the Warming Up games. But, when my team came in front of the class the laptop was error. The laptop couldn’t link with the screen and the sounds didn’t hear too. So, actually it made me nervous and numb. I tried my best to hold my spirit and energy stayed in my body. And I kept my smile at that time…

I can say “I learned a lot from it” proudly. I have already known that we have to make plan B if there was technical error or something else. So that it can’t disturb us while we are doing teaching learning process. And if we want to make a presentation or simulation, I have to remember about the time so that the goal can be delivered well. And also I have to be Happy, so that the energy can distribute to another.

People in the world have different genetics that influence the learning styles. On the other hand, human being has the family up bringing that also influence that. That is way, it is important for each to know and understand it to increase the learning ability efficiently.
Based on the theory of Georgi Lezanov about learning styles, there are 3 learning styles that explain the way of people learning. Those are visual, auditory and kinesthetic style. He said that each learning style has its own characteristics.

 Visual style is the learning style that also involves the use of seen or observed things, including drawings, diagrams, demonstrations, displays, films, flip-charts, etc. For visual people, the good learning method is to look directly into the object associated with it or drawing everything on the paper. Auditory learning style involves the transfer of information through listening like to the spoken word, of self or others, of sounds and noises. The characteristics of auditory people are learning with listening and reading with loud voice. Kinesthetic learning style involves physical experience like touching, feeling, holding, doing, and practical hands. The characteristic of kinesthetic people are touching the people to get their attention and learning through practice.
For me, my learning style is kinesthetic style. It is considered by my experiences. I can not study if my fingers or my foot do not move. I also can remember the lessons much more quickly if a part of my body moves like knocking may nails on the table. I can not sit calmly for several hours. Kinesthetic learning style is not the only one that can help me study well. Sometimes, I can study with auditory and visual style. Because I think, I can adapt with environment and my friends learning styles.

 In Language and Teaching Methodologies (LTM) make up class, we had to presentation with simulation of language teaching models. There are 6 models and I got Communicative Approach with my partner Indah and Kiki. Actually, I was so sad because I couldn’t do my best in Language Teaching’s presentation. Before that day, we had discussion in Kiki and Indah’s boarding house in the last night. I think it was not effective because it was too late to organize the presentation concept. We just think how to perform better without make a misunderstanding about the points. We didn’t do the pre-simulation… huhuhu. The result was I didn’t get satisfaction from my self and the audiences. I think, We can know the result from the respond, can’t we? Although is also from our mind and body, right? And i feel not confident with my role on last Saturday.

I have to change. Changing means everyting. I think I have to change my time management and always obey it (I hope I can).

For me, It was my ‘rewards’ and I have to do best and prepare well before! SPIRIT!!!

Awesooomeee... hahaha again, I knew a new game. I am a kinestetic person and can’t be quite person at the class. I mean my body, my fingers, my hands and my foot, easily moved to make my body comfort. The new game was “agree or disagree” game. Actually, I named it because the porpose and the technic to play it show our agree and disagree expressions.

The technis are first I had to read the Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants by Marc Prensky (I think next I will summarize it). Then second, I had to highlight the best statement or quotes that giving impacts to me. After all had done with those activities, we had to make a big circle. We didn’t need to bring any stationaries. The main points of this game is when the lecturer said some statements that according to me and then the statements was very “me” or it was true and right, I had to move forward. When it was not “me” or based on my opinion that statements was not true, I had to move backward. That was so simple but the game made me happy and comfort with my self.

I think, I have to collect a lot of simulation games because if I was a teacher, I can use them based on the situation and condition in the class. But I have to know all of these games have the porpose that giving the students way to distribute their multiple intelligent and also as a warming up of the class to make the learner comfortable and more spirit to learn all lessons.

It was great lesson for me because I learn a lot from the class activities. The section that has important role for me is presentation section. In that section I had to present our discussion about Basic Competition and assessment last week. I was very ready to present first in front of the class. So that I called my group to be ready to present at that moment. I was very excited and happy because I could be a first presentator in my group. It included greetting to all my friends, like Ice Breaking and told them about our topic (basic competence that my group chose). Maybe it was soso situation for some people that it had little effect, but for me it liked ‘medicine’ to built my power and my spirit to do my best in that presentation. I think I did it well and I could be moderator too, because I think I could combine the two different perceptions into one and happy to see that our precentation have a lot of responds like comments, suggestions and also information from my friends.

The important thing that I learned from Basic Competence presentation section is I had to prepare well about the class activities. I also had to understand and know about the students feeling. So that, I can make lesson plan easily. I had to keep in track from basic competence that I got. Bu Tika said that to make a great lesson plan we had to know the backward design. The Backward Design include three steps which are desired learning targets, assessment as evidence and learning activities. From those with adding my creativity, I hope I can make the fun and effective class if I was a teacher. Because I feel that those things can improve me better than before.

 
First, I didn’t know what we would learn today about Principles of Effective Teaching and Assessment. But after I studied it in the first week, It was surprised me because it makes me always reflect, like what is my perception about the great teacher, What should I do if I teach students from different background, What the impact of our previous teaching learning process when in Junior or Senior high school and so on.

It makes me think critically and the best part that I learned in the first week is about the greatest of being a teacher like what can the teacher do. I also reflected everything from my previous teacher, like what the less things and what the best things that they did when they taught me.

I am happy to accept this lesson in this semester and I hope I can improve my teaching skills too. Amien!

It was surprising me, because in Debate section we had to make the team by choosing ‘the other family’s sounds’, actually I was afraid in that section.  Our Topic for this debate section is “agree or disagree about teaching with technology” (something like that!). We had divided into 3 groups based on 3 different sounds. there were Kokok, Kekek and Kukuk. Our tasked was searched and met the other sounds so that Kokok, Kekek and Kukuk can meet together whoever they are… until here, maybe it makes sense but … gather and meet together with close eyes??? OMG… hhuhuhu…Hopefully, I could meet 2 others sounds. that were Kukuk and Kekek.
Our group is named Eksis Banget like the person in that group heheh… and we debated the Arsy’s group. The class was so crowded. But Arsy’s and my group so interest about each comments from us. Also, It reminds me when I senior high school and doing debate competition. It was so fun and i learned a lot from that. it also made me happy, because I had to be an critical person. I had to know what the best statements to rebate the other team. I had to know what the best language to say it, i mean in polite ways without speak impolite words, shout, scream and others.

From debate section, I can conclude that we can use technology in school as a media in teaching learning process but we can’t leave the traditional methods too…  how if we teach in the school that lack of technology or if technologies that we want to use is error or something like that.. so we won’t delay the teaching learning process in the class because of our addicted using technology. Better we know the situation and condition first, before we want to teach the class. I think if we can combine it well and the students are in fun and effective mode… it is best…

I am very happy to know that I will learn Technology and Language Learning (TLL) in this semester. In my mind, I think i will learn about Technology and apply it in the teaching learning process.

At the first course, what I think about this course and what the lecturer said about the purpose of learning this course is same. I said to my self that I am right… but I have plus additional… I can know more about the kind of technology is…Information that relate with technology… and etc

In the first section, Mr. Iwan presented (hopefully, the lecturer is Mr. Iwan, so it’s not bored ) the kind of technology such as gadgets (Ipad, Iphone, Handycam, and etc) and social networking (facebook, twitter, moodle, yahoo messenger, skype, and etc). Honest, I didn’t know about the some of the technology that be shown by Mr. Iwan, like what is podcast, moodle? but it makes me interest about this lesson.

Also, now I know about the Digital Native and Digital Immigrant. There are part of technology information that is something new for me. Me, who born after 80s, is called digital native because i born with the technology surround me. It’s true, because in my childhood there were Cellphone, Nintendo, Sega, and others technology that exist and I think it make me comfortable enough. I know to use it well and learn it easily. But if I compare with my parents, they impressed timid to use those technology. Even my father knew to use Cell phone when i was Senior High School. So contrast with me… Mr. Iwan said that They are called Digital Immigrants… reverse of Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants born before 80s era..hmm… sounds interesting to me.

Oh… Even chalks and blackboards or ‘Batu Tulis’ can be called some part of technology because at that era it is something new that  make the teaching learning process proceed easily.

If I was a teacher, I will use technology in teaching learning process without forget the traditional methods (it depends on situation and condition right?) If I can combine it well and it can make the teaching learning process fun and effective… why not…  but I think i have to pass the process first so it can be realize.

Last but not least… I am as a teacher generation have to creatively apply ICT to enhance language classroom interaction..
